Rogue St. Rogue Red Ale ( Newport, OR )

This Red Ale was apparently initially released as Captain Sig's Deadliest Ale and edicated to the Hansen brothers - Sig, Edgar, and Norman - the Rogues of the Bering Sea.. Deep red in color, it starts off with a floral, slightly citrus hop nose. On the palate, the hop flavor soon fades into the malty backbone of this red ale. 9 Ingredients: it is brewed with 2 Row Pale, Munich, Carastan and Chocolate malts and Amarillo and Cascade hops.

Rogue Ales was founded in 1988 by Jack Joyce, Rob Strasser and Bob Woodell and the first Rogue brewpub was located in Ashland, Oregon and was a 10bbl brewsystem. A second brewpub, a 15bbl brewsystem, opened in Newport, Oregon in May 1989. Rogue eventually closed its Ashland operation after a great flood destroyed the place. In 1991, the 15bbl system from the Newport brewpub was transferred across the bay to the current brewery at and upgraded to a 30bbl system. In 1998 Rogue bought a 50bbl brewsystem and it is the only brewsystem now in use.
