Rogue American Amber ( Newport, OR )

Rogue American Amber Ale is a deep red-brown in color and has a foamy and long-lived head. It has a slightly citrusy aroma and is bitter and complex on the palate, with a balanced blend of Cascade and Goldings hops and a pleasant malt flavor. Some reviewers have suggested it to be the flip side of Rogue's very hoppy St. Red Ale.

Rogue Ales was founded in 1988 by Jack Joyce, Rob Strasser and Bob Woodell and the first Rogue brewpub was located in Ashland, Oregon and was a 10bbl brewsystem. A second brewpub, a 15bbl brewsystem, opened in Newport, Oregon in May 1989. Rogue eventually closed its Ashland operation after a great flood destroyed the place. In 1991, the 15bbl system from the Newport brewpub was transferred across the bay to the current brewery at and upgraded to a 30bbl system. In 1998 Rogue bought a 50bbl brewsystem and it is the only brewsystem now in use.
